Love and Commitment
Following events in the national press recently, I have been thinking about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship and wondering how this will affect the country and the monarchy.
I’m not surprised that they are hoping for a life away from the constant intrusion of the media. I don’t imagine for a moment that Meghan, a woman of considerable wealth before she met Harry, thought (as an adult) ‘I want to be a princess!” It is far more likely that she met and fell in love with someone who happened to be a prince.
Marrying into royalty, aristocracy or another prominent position in the public eye, can’t be easy, I guess being part funded by the tax payer and belonging to an institution like the monarchy kind of makes you public property.
Meghan is not the first woman to have experienced the glare of the media spotlight. Indeed, the death of Harry’s mother whilst being pursued by the Paparazzi, must have contributed to their decision to step away from their royal duties.
